Are you always online? Do you think in memes? Do you love San Antonio? MySA is seeking a Social Media Editor to manage and grow our social media channels and social referral traffic. The ideal candidate has experience managing social media accounts and a social calendar for a brand or publication; keeps their finger on the pulse of trending news stories, hashtags, memes and other cultural trends; and has a love for service journalism, culture, commentary and news. You think critically about who local news isn't reaching and can imagine and communicate opportunities for serving new social audiences with diverse preferences, life experiences, and beliefs.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Managing MySA's social media accounts, including Facebook and Twitter
• Collaborating with the editorial team to create engaging social media content highlighting MySA's editorial content, in addition to original social content
• Maintaining a social content calendar
• Analyzing social media engagement and develop insights based on social media content and/or channel performance
• Collaborating with the San Antonio Express-News and Hearst marketing teams to edit and schedule marketing, sponsored content and affiliate content posts
Competencies/Critical Skills:
• Experience developing and maintaining social calendars
• Experience creating graphics, memes, GIFs, etc. for social and/or collaborating with a graphic designer/photo editor as needed for social images
• Up-to-date on social media channels best practices, algorithms and trends
• Experience with social listening and developing real-time content
• Comfortable with social media analytics, as well as developing insights based on social media content and/or channel performance
• Familiarity with MySA's San Antonio-area and greater Texas audience
• Strong copywriting and copy-editing skills
Measures of success for this role:
• Increased referral traffic from social channels (at least 25-30% of MySA's traffic must come from social by EOY)
• Crafting a consistent voice across social channels
• Increased engagement across social channels
• Increased follower count across social channels
Experience/Qualifications/Education:
• Bachelor degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing or English preferred
• At least 2-3 years of experience managing social media for a brand or publication required
• Experience using Chartbeat, Google Analytics, Looker, or other analytics tools required
• Experience using Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva or other design tools for social images required
• Experience using SocialFlow, Hubspot, Sprout Social, or other social media scheduling platforms required
• Proven track record of increased social media community building and engagement required
