Senior Editor, New Audiences and Initiatives
The Houston Chronicle is seeking a Senior Editor, New Audiences and Initiatives to join our award-winning newsroom. The successful candidate will be passionate about local news and serving communities, will thrive in digital spaces and have a track record of bringing innovation to a newsroom or newsrooms. We're looking for a leader who combines deep knowledge of content, plus audience-building skills for a variety of communities, whether within the Houston city limits or throughout the region. How do you know if this is you? You're aggressive in your pursuit of opportunities, platforms and partnerships that accelerate growth and build loyalty. The ability to lean into why people use different platforms and move quickly to capitalize is key. We want a leader who is skilled in the use of visuals in both creating content and distributing news that makes readers stop and take note. The person should have a strong track record of building relationships, and managing and partnering with teams across the newsroom with the joint goal of building relationships with audiences.
This leader must combine deep knowledge of content, plus audience-building skills for a variety of communities, whether within the Houston city limits or throughout the region with the goal of increasing the number of people interacting and subscribing to our content.
• Collaborate with editors and reporters across the newsroom on the Chronicle's audience goals.
• Develop content plans and audience strategies to grow, engage, experiment and build loyalty with new audiences
• Explore partnership opportunities that accelerate growth and deepen ties to the Houston community
• Innovate with new content as well as new platforms and engagement opportunities (podcast, SMS, video) to extend our journalism into new spaces for new communities.

A strong track record of building relationships, and managing and partnering with teams across the newsroom with the joint goal of building relationships with audiences.
• Be fluent in audience metrics (Google Analytics, Chartbeat, etc) You should be able to read the signals, extrapolates trends, makes recommendations on content, programming
• Deep understanding of digital and social platforms and what drives loyalty
• Ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders and across departments
• A demonstrated understanding of audience content consumption trends
