Print Production Editor
Help improve the reader experience of Hearst's daily and weekly newspapers.
Hearst Newspapers is seeking print production editors to join the Hearst Texas Newspaper Publishing Hub.
Print Production Editors are part of a team responsible for producing weekly and daily newspapers through page layout, headline and caption writing, and proofing to ensure quality newspapers.
What will you do?
• Design newspaper pages
• Edit stories
• Write headlines and captions
• Provide quality check before pages are sent to press
What will it take to be successful?
• English-language proficiency with strong knowledge of basic grammar, spelling and punctuation.
• A firm understanding of basic print journalism style, including how to form an acceptable headline and photo caption.
• Read and comprehend a story well enough to write a headline, edit the story to fit the space available and write acceptable captions under photos.
• Have a well-rounded interest and understanding of news, sports, and entertainment.
• Ability to work nights and weekends depending on the shift.
• Ability to juggle several activities across a shift.
• 1-2 years of print layout and copy editing experience preferred
• Print newspaper systems experience a plus.
