The Times Union in Albany, NY, is seeking candidates for the inaugural Joseph T. Lyons Investigative Fellowship. This is a two-year position.
What you'll do:
• Learn how to dig deeply and report creatively to expose wrongdoing.
• Show how corruption impacts communities often overlooked by government and underrepresented in media.
• Spend time in all areas of New York's capital city.
• Question politicians, official and others who may, or may not, be less than honest.
• Be mentored by the winner of New York's 2019 Michael Hendricks Journalist of the Year Award.
• Develop short- and long-term projects, cultivate sources and mine data
Who you are:
• An early-career journalist who believes traditional media makes a difference.
• You're courageous, persistent and empathetic – and you don't scare off easily.
• You know how to navigate public-access laws and court processes at the state and federal levels.
• You have a bachelor's degree in journalism or a similar field and exemplify journalistic ethics.
Who we are:
The Times Union is an award-winning newspaper in Upstate New York known for its investigative journalism. Located three or so hours from NYC, Boston and Montreal, we have access to everything from mountain biking to jazz concerts, gorgeous landscapes to hot pot restaurants.
