Position Responsibilities:
Chron is seeking an editor and eater who's passionate about Houston food to grow Chron's food and drink section.
The ideal candidate loves Houston and its dining culture, and has experience finding, writing and editing stories about the city's robust food scene. We're not looking for stories about restaurant openings and closings. Thechron.com food editor will highlight what makes Houston's food scene the most delicious in the country, and where Houstonians should eat and drink right now: whether it's the aguas frescas stand down the road, your favorite taco truck, the hole-in-the-wall noodle spot, or an under-appreciated dish at an old favorite.
The chron.com food editor needs to be an editorial strategist with a deep understanding of not only digital operations and audience growth, but also the alchemy of combining service journalism, culture, commentary, and news into a single property with a well-articulated voice, tone, and POV. You will:
• Writes both quick hit and longer feature stories for Chron's food section
• Manages staff writers and freelancers
• Edits staff writers
• Edits freelance submissions
• Tracks performance metrics
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or English
At least 2-3 years of digital editing experience
At least 2-3 years of experience reporting and writing about Houston or Texas food
Experience working in a CMS
Experience with Chartbeat, Google Analytics, Looker, or other analytics tools
