Director of Audience Do you want to work in a fast-paced newsroom on the biggest stories in the Capital Region? Do you have a passion for audience development and local journalism? We're looking for an ambitious, versatile leader with a combination of news and marketing skills to join the Times Union digital team. The Director of Audience will have experience in a senior leadership position in a newsroom or digital content company. We need a self-starter with high standards who can collaborate well, has excellent communication skills, and is ready to dig deep into content and readership analytics while devising strategies across platforms to help the Capital Region's largest and most ambitious newsroom grow even more. The successful candidate will be at the forefront of innovation and their work will touch hundreds of thousands of readers every day.
Duties:
• Develop and execute an audience strategy for The Times Union newsroom that would increase key traffic segments three-fold.
• Co-Manage a team of journalists committed to growing overall and audiences while keeping focused on subscriber retention.
• Create off-platform strategies and maintain relationships with third-party partners.
• Work with digital managers, editors and writers on innovative packages and new ways of storytelling.
• Provide regular insights and training to journalists and leaders across the newsroom so they can contribute to audience-building goals.
We're looking for someone with:
• At least seven years of news experience.
• Bachelor's or master's degree, journalism focus preferred.
• Experience in a marketing or audience function in a major market.
• Track record of audience growth success.
• Obsession with digital metrics.
• Exceptional social media skills.
• Understanding of media ethics.
• Management experience
This is a full-time position. The workweek is 37.5 hours and could include nights, weekends and holidays as news warrants.
