Arts and Culture Writer

Full Time Job
Primary Responsibilities:
• Regular stories reporting on arts events, artists, musicians, etc

• Regular enterprise pieces analyzing and exploring the arts in San Antonio and the culture of San Antonio

• Develop deep sources within the arts/music community of San Antonio. Will work with editors.

• Expected to have multiple story pitches at each budget meeting

• Publish multiple stories each week

Competencies/Critical Skills:
• Needs to be a self-starter with strong drive for enterprise and a hunger to get on A1

• Should have strong writing skills and be able to tell great, compelling stories, as well as broader topics

• Should have a strong writing voice and a developed perspective on arts and culture

• Must be willing to use that critical perspective to offer analysis and critic of arts and culture

• Must have a strong sense of curiosity about the world around them and a deep desire to explore it, naturally on the lookout for stories every time they go out

Experience, Qualifications, Technical Requirements, Education:
• A journalism degree is preferred

• Minimum 3 years working in a daily newsroom is required

• Experience writing about the arts/music is required

• Spanish speaking is preferred

• Must live in San Antonio, Texas
