Full Time Job
Popular Mechanics is looking for an editorially-minded, resourceful video shooter/editor to produce regular videos, primarily in the DIY space but also as a video component to print and digital stories on other topics. Popular Mechanics has always been about solving problems by inventing solutions, and that way of thinking will apply to our exciting new video production arm.
The ideal candidate will be a creative, resourceful person who collaborates well with their team to produce compelling short and long form video. A strong work ethic and scrappy/can-do attitude is a must.
This is a freelance position with the possibility of turning full-time in the future. All applicants must be open to starting as a freelance employee.
Requirements:
• 3 year of digital shooting/production experience in the lifestyle, tech or journalism fields
• Researching capabilities
• Familiar with various video formats/codecs, specifically for web –Youtube, facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat
• Design sensibility for motion graphics
• Must be a Self-motivator
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
• Ability to troubleshoot technical challenges and deliver the best video/audio quality in the field
• Editing capabilities in terms of pacing, music sensibility and graphics
• Must be able to work well under pressure in a fast paced environment
Must be proficient with the following:
• Adobe Premiere CC 2017, After Effects CC, Final Cut Pro 7, Photoshop CC, Media Encoder, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
• Video/DSLR cameras (Sony FS7, Cannon C300)
• Lighting kits (Kino Flo, Chimera, Litepanel)
• Audio recorders (Zoom, Lavaliers, Boom)
Candidates who do not include shooting & editing samples will not be considered.
