Popular Mechanics - part of Hearst's Enthusiast Group -seeks an outrageously inquisitive, highly energetic, creatively driven, and detail-obsessed editor who is also an expert at create compelling, clear service and how-to content. Working within our Strategic Content group, the service editor mines the news, cultural memes and trends, our own data and analytics, and relevant social feeds to originate, plan, create, edit, and distribute strategically driven content - stories with a discrete goal such as traffic generation, affiliate revenue, audience development and engagement - that helps our community achieve something, hack something, create something, or increase their proficiency in activities relevant to our brand. Must be able to create content
on a daily basis, as well as simultaneously working on longer-term projects. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about creating and targeting content to performance metrics, and combines an editing and writing background in service journalism with a passion for and knowledge of the core interests of the Popular Mechanics community. The role is based in the Enthusiast Group headquarters in the Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania.
Responsibilities:
* Under direction of the Director of Content Operations and the Deputy Editor, originate, plan, and publish service content that meets performance metrics - and is dazzling.
* Produce stories daily while simultaneously creating longer works for our site, magazine, social feeds and other channels.
* Hit every deadline. Crush every metric.
Qualifications:
* at least 3-5 years of experience in editing and writing service content, with a bonus for background in science, tech, machines, games, the outdoors, DIY, repair, maker culture, and anyplace obsessive curiosity leads.
* Budget- and metric-driven personality
* Must be able to manage feedback from multiple parties and deal with fast-changing priorities
* Ability to thrive under multiple projects while meeting tight deadlines
* Must be able to work flexible hours as needed
