Your impact:
Hearst Magazines is seeking a senior food and lifestyle editor to help guide the daily operations and long-term strategy for one of its fastest-growing lifestyle sites: ThePioneerWoman.com. The ideal candidate is a highly organized, idea-generating leader who is passionate about food and service writing and skilled at pitching around SEO beats, line-editing features and explainers, and brainstorming new angles for visual round-ups.
The senior food and lifestyle editor will report to the digital director and will directly manage the lifestyle editor, helping to plan long-term content strategies and evolve and grow the lifestyle sections. S/he will also liaise with the print editors, design, and photo departments, and freelance writers. What you'll do:
• Work with the digital director, executive editor, and senior editor to spearhead the editorial lineup (15 stories daily)
• Oversee and manage the site's SEO and freelance editorial calendar
• Manage the lifestyle editor and team of freelancers
• Lead SEO strategy for the site, working with Hearst's SEO team, The Pioneer Woman test kitchen, and The Pioneer Woman print team to increase traffic from search and to establish new beats
• Assign, edit, and occasionally write stories across multiple content categories
• Oversee the site's e-commerce strategy, working with the lifestyle editor and Hearst's e-commerce team to chart path for growth
• Track the daily online conversation around key topics and the site's core and targeted audiences, and pitch ideas for editors and freelancers to cover
• Monitor analytics daily to help grow traffic and engagement across all channels of the site and social platforms
• Work with Birmingham test kitchen team to develop food and recipe strategy for the site
Who you are:
• You have at least 5 years of editing and writing experience in consumer digital media, ideally in food and/or lifestyle categories
• You have strong line-editing and digital packaging skills, and a passion for digital news and online trends
• You have deep knowledge of SEO best practices and know how to grow traffic through search
• You are experienced with editing and managing multiple freelancers and staffers, including setting and enforcing deadlines
• You have experience monitoring performance metrics and building strategy using tools such as Google Analytics and Chartbeat, plus a proven grasp of social media
• You have excellent organizational skills and strong visual and photo research skills
