Do you crave wide-open spaces, fresh air, and better weather? Does the idea of working in a reclaimed biscuit factory sound appealing? Would you prefer spending your work day dreaming up editorial packages about porches, farmhouses, or converted barns? Country Living, the nation's largest-selling shelter magazine, is looking for a senior editor to join its close-knit Birmingham-based team. If you brake for antiques shops, have a soft spot for buffalo check, and/or spend every free moment scouring your Instagram feed for design inspiration, you may be the right fit.
What we're looking for:
• A solid generalist editor type with 5 years of magazine experience. The senior editor will assign and/or top-edit stories on decorating, food, crafts, antiques, and more. (Experience at a lifestyle or design magazine is a plus.)
• Someone who can present and package content in fun and unique ways. (In other words, can you make a standard story on paint or fabric feel new and engaging and different?)
• A strong style filter. Ideally, you have experience vetting market work, weighing in on homes shoots, and reviewing homes submissions. This position works closely with our executive editor and style director.
• A clear, concise, and conversational editorial voice, as well as a network of go-to freelancers (writers, scouts, etc.).
• A creative thinker who can dream up fun and fresh strategies for bringing the magazine to life off the page, whether it's via new events, licensing deals, digital initiatives, or other strategic partnerships.
• Someone who is proactive, organized, and deadline-oriented. Also: a genius multi-tasker (see all of the above!).
• Someone who occasionally brings old-fashioned brown butter doughnuts (@wehavedoughnuts) to the office.
NOTE: For consideration, resumes must be submitted in PDF format with a cover letter, salary requirements, and a link to a portfolio of work.
