Hearst Autos is seeking a News Writer and Editor for Car and Driver. You are a digital writer with an interest in all aspects of the automotive industry. Reporting to the Deputy Editor, News, this role will work with Car and Driver's News team to create daily content that educates and informs both automotive enthusiasts and general interest audiences. The ideal candidate is fast, writes clean copy, and isn't afraid to pick up the phone to follow up on a lead.
This role is currently based in Ann Arbor, MI but will eventually work from our new office near Detroit, MI in early 2020.

Responsibilities:
• Source and write news content on the automotive / transportation industry
• Create entire stories including photo selection and cropping in our CMS
• Be able to translate PR-jargon and technical terms into relevant, helpful content
• Cover major automotive events, auto shows, and new car introductions
• Cultivate relationships and sources to provide quality reporting that goes beyond the press release
• Have an innate understanding of Car and Driver's brand and purpose
• Collaborate with other Hearst properties to stay on top of current content trends, share best practices and be a part of the editorial community
Requirements:
• At least 3 years of experience in digital media
• Background in reporting and writing stories on short notice
• Fluency working within a CMS
• Familiarity with publishing on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram
• Knowledge of Google Analytics and how to derive actionable insights from data
• Adaptability: News comes fast and in many forms; you need to be able to react
• Bachelor's Degree
