The impact you will have
Hearst Magazines is seeking an experienced HR Manager and Business Partner to join
our People, Culture and Talent team. As
an HR Manager and Business Partner, you will work alongside some of the best
talent in the media world. You will be
focused on partnering with and coaching employees for growth and success. Your ability to communicate and collaborate
will be invaluable as you work with us to develop and execute on talent
strategy. Our People, Culture and Talent
team is focused on seeing that Hearst Magazines remains an employer of choice
for those seeking a career in media as well as developing our internal talent. Depending on your interest and experience,
you will not only be key in employee relations, but you will have a chance to
participate in workforce/ succession planning, learning and development,
employee engagement, and onboarding.
What you'll do
• You will use your interpersonal skills to develop
strong, effective, working relationships across your magazine groups to
lead and support managers and employees in the areas of retention, morale,
productivity, policy interpretation and implementation, conflict
resolution, and cultural integration.
• You will partner with management, providing
HR guidance when appropriate, while providing day-to-day performance
management guidance (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development,
disciplinary actions).
• You will get to analyze and present the
employee engagement survey results to senior management and derive
insights into trends& metrics that drive the improvement of existing
programs or the creation of new ones
• You will be integral in the full employee
lifecycle from onboarding to employee exit interviews.
• You will provide guidance and input on
business unit restructures, workforce planning and succession planning.

• You will be trusted to manage and resolve
complex employee relations issues. You will use your HR knowledge of
policies and laws to administer employment policies and procedures in
compliance with corporate policies and applicable state and federal laws
partnering with the legal team as appropriate
• Assist managers and employees in understanding and
applying HR, and other, tools/resources/processes in order to maximize employee
performance, achieve organizational effectiveness, and improve employee
engagement.
Who you are
• You are passionate about a people-centric
approach to HR and not HR for the sake of following policy
• You desire to partner with assigned
groups and business leaders to create and foster a culture that recognizes
great talent. You know how to partner
with medium to large sized employee groups (350 )
• You have 5 - 7 years generalist experience in the media industry including,
but not limited to, HR business partner functions, Employee Engagement,
Training & Development, benefits, HR metrics and reporting.
• You have a firm belief that a strong
People team can help enable individuals to reach their potential and ensure all
employees are treated with respect and fairness.
• You are known for being able to 'read the
room' and can quickly identify themes/ issues in a situation
• You want to rethink, reshape and reinvent
how traditional HR is done in order to apply new thinking in a changing,
creative environment.
• Your colleagues see you as someone who
has great instincts and judgment with the ability to connect human
concerns/needs with business.
• You also have a strong process
orientation, are analytical and can project manage your work, but, all with a
human approach to problem solving.
• You may have worked with a large media,
publishing or digital agency firm
• You may have a HR Professional Certification or demonstrated HR
related professional work experience and
• You are proficient in MS Office Programs: Excel, Word, Outlook,
PowerPoint.
• You're experienced in HRIS system experience, preferably with
Oracle and Taleo
• You're knowledgeable of current employment law, worker's
compensation, ADA, EEOC, FMLA, and state and local laws.
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work related experience.
