Executive Managing Editor, Cosmopolitan, Women's Health, and Seventeen
The executive managing editor will work on Cosmopolitan, Women's Health, and Seventeen, responsible for managing editorial budgets, overall production processes, contract negotiations, and staff management, as well as partnering with Advertising on brand extensions and other revenue-generating opportunities. This role works closely with the brand EICS and site directors and the general managers on budgets and day-to-day operations of all the brands, communicating with edit staff as well as interdepartmental groups such as Advertising, Production, Consumer Marketing, Human Resources, and Editorial Operations. The EME is the point person for any related company-wide initiative. Candidates should have 10 years of experience in similar managerial roles at major consumer magazine brands. Responsibilities:
• The EME will supervise the deputy/assistant managing editors of Cosmopolitan, Women's Health, and Seventeen; these roles also report to the EICs of the brands. The EME will oversee the shared copy and research departments as well as ensure effective workflows for the art departments.
• The EME is responsible for working with the GMs and editorial business managers of the brands to manage the group budget and to look for opportunities to negotiate better rates with vendors and to implement systems that will save brands money.
• The EME is responsible for all contracts for Cosmopolitan, Women's Health, and Seventeen, ensuring that contracts are sent out and signed for all commissioned content and that the rights expected from Corporate are obtained. The EME is expected to have experience negotiating difficult contracts and step in as needed to help resolve contract problems. The EME will also make sure that all sweepstakes and contests for both brands are handled according to Hearst guidelines. She/he is also responsible for clearing rights and permissions for all published material.
• The EME will be responsible for all HR-related matters, T&E, and IT needs for the brands' staffs and for the shared teams. The EME will work with the EICs to manage the shared staff and is expected to maintain a professional work environment and help the editorial teams resolve conflicts and workflow issues.
• The EME will supervise the deputy/assistant managing editors of Cosmopolitan, Women's Health, and Seventeen, who will manage lineups, copy flow, and book makeup as well as act as the liaison with the edit teams, Advertising, and Production. The EME is expected to have a thorough understanding of the production environment and be ready to step in as needed.
