The impact you'll have
As Executive Director of Business Affairs, you will be the primary business affairs executive through all stages of financing, development, production, distribution, and licensing for television, film, and digital/social video, as well as related advertising and promotion. You will also manage the relationship between various stakeholders such as senior management, legal, production management and content creators in matters of day-to-legal compliance including employment and guild matters and intellectual property.
What you'll do
• Analyze deal opportunities and formulate business strategies with respect to various content development and production matters
• Structure, negotiate, and draft terms for a high volume of development and production agreements, including license agreements, option and other rights and development-related agreements, talent/test option agreements, and certain above-the-line agreements
• Work side by side with producers to vet vendor bids and negotiate best rates
• Work with producer to flag legal risk with creative (treatments, scripts, rough cuts)
• Manage the templates and execution of all needed documents for productions (location release, talent release, insurance, etc.)
• Lead weekly status meetings with production teams and other stakeholders to review all legal matters.
• Interface with a variety of different departments including in-house personnel (e.g., creative, marketing, etc.) and production personnel/crew
• Develop and suggest policies, practices, and parameters in connection with various business issues
• Advise senior management in connection with deal strategies and complex business / legal matters
• Maintain relationships with broadcasters/exhibitors/distributors, agencies, managers, and attorneys in the entertainment community
Requirements
• 10 years' prior business / legal affairs experience with a major media entertainment company and / or entertainment firm with substantial experience in content acquisition, sales, and production
• Extensive and in-depth knowledge of negotiating and documenting content transactions with an ability to operate independently with minimal supervision
• Ability to deal effectively with a variety of business/legal matters at once
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Proactive business-oriented approach
• Must be detail-oriented and possess superior negotiation, drafting, organization and time management skills
• Experience providing timely and thoughtful content review advice on potential risks and issues, and proposing practical, responsive solutions
• JD Preferred although this is not a legal role
