Full Time Job
Hearst Digital Media is looking for an enthusiastic Assistant Equipment Manager to join their video team. Our ideal candidate is hardworking, methodical yet creative, and has a strong interest in all areas of production. This would be a great opportunity for someone with existing Production knowledge of film, TV or Web Production to join a rapidly expanding team in a busy equipment room.
The successful applicant will have had at least 2 years of experience working either directly in film, TV or Web across electrical and/or grip departments, or ideally have experience working at an existing equipment rental facility. During this time they should have developed a strong understanding of the gamut of equipment - camera, grip, lighting, audio and accessories.
The person we're looking for should be able to clearly demonstrate their interest and capacity for maintaining an organized, integrated and transparent working environment. An interest in sharing knowledge and experience is essential for this role. As we look to develop a new generation of storytellers at Hearst, the foundation for those stories is built on a robust and efficient technical department.
Responsibilities:
• Liaise with the Studio Manager to ensure all equipment is present and functional for shoots
• Pull and pack equipment for video and photo shoots from Hearst inventory as well as overseeing others to ensure gear requests are fulfilled accurately
• Obtaining quotes for and placing equipment orders with rental houses, ensuring the rates we're receiving fall within production budgets.
• Coordinating with messenger services/rental houses to ensure pickups/deliveries are scheduled and efficient
• Oversight of equipment tracking systems, both physical and digital
• Ensuring Hearst-owned equipment is in good working order, obtaining quotes for and scheduling expedient repairs where necessary
• Proactively liaising with Hearst's Director of Production, Producers and associated Production staff on equipment requests and shoots to ensure they run smoothly from a technical standpoint, helping problem solve and make recommendations where necessary
• Working with Studio Manager to oversee junior members of staff, ensuring their time is spent proactively
• Maintaining organization and professional appearance of the Equipment Room
• Occasional offsite visits to equipment houses to collect equipment and sundries
Qualifications:
• Strong interest in production, specifically web-based content as well as a clear understanding of the specific needs of digital production and the equipment required to produce it
• Active interest in emerging trends in technical fields and ability to integrate these at scale for our business
• Ability to work with other team members of all experience levels to resolve barriers and ensure smooth production with the highest production values
• Ability to disseminate information quickly and accurately to provide proactive, quick solutions
• Comfortable lifting 50 pounds on a daily basis
• Strong work ethic
Candidates who do not submit their resumes in .pdf format will not be considered.
