Your Impact
Hearst Originals is seeking a creative executive with proven experience in premium digital video and/or Unscripted TV to join its team as Director of Development. In the role, you will identify, develop, and help produce new and always incredibly entertaining series for digital partners and TV. You will use both of your creative and business sides in launching new projects, with a deep understanding of the fundamentals of development and production across unscripted formats. You will touch on everything from story ideation to casting to field production, post-production, and delivery for Hearst Originals. Hearst Originals is the video production studio within Hearst Magazines dedicated to developing, producing, and distributing premium original series for digital, broadcast, and OTT.
What you'll do
• Always delivering new series ideas that surprise and entertain while also developing other
• almost-there pitches into ones that delight and 'work'
• Manage junior development team as well as freelance employees
• Help oversee production of sizzles for shopping new series
• Hire/manage production crews in various locations for sizzles
• Oversee post-production (give notes and feedback on various edits, GFX, etc.)
• Travel as needed to help pitch and sell series
Who you are
• 5-7 years of experience in development and/or production
• Demonstrated ability to produce Internet-forward medium- to long-form premium series as well as linear programming
• A deep network of contacts across the entertainment industry with a legit track record of project sales
• Proven ability to lead small teams as well as work independently
• Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting tight deadlines
• Experience across digital, TV, and docs and with a strong understanding of content creation for a diverse audience across multiple platforms
• Keen interest in experimentation and thinking of new formats to tell incredible and always entertaining stories
