Hearst Originals is seeking a Development Director to ideate series ideas for both digital video and network television. The ideal candidate will have experience both ideating series ideas and formats as well as overseeing a more junior development team and helping flesh out and improving series ideas.
Also required is experience directing and field producing both live and docu-style series, as well as managing and delivering notes in post-production. The candidate must have an incredibly strong understanding of the current media climate as well as the digital landscape. This person needs to be able to work under tight deadlines in a very fast-paced and ever-changing environment. In addition to having a great eye and smart ideas, this person must be able to collaborate seamlessly with multiple teams and have a strong vision for experimenting with formats and storytelling techniques.
This role will be based in NYC and report in to both the VP of Hearst Originals and Development as well as the Senior Director of Hearst Originals.
Responsibilities:
• Manage development team and freelance employees
• Pitch ideas, transform pitched ideas into compelling ones, and create sizzles
• Direct talent and crew on set
• Book/hire film crews in various locations
• Oversee post-production (give notes and feedback on various edits, GFX, etc.)
Qualifications:
• 8-10 years of experience producing and directing (a background in development a MAJOR plus)
• Demonstrated ability to produce internet-forward/viral short and long-form video as well as linear programming
• Proficiency with Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, and other Creative Suite products
• Proven ability to manage and lead a team of shooters, editors, producers and assistants
• Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting tight deadlines
• Must be able to work flexible hours as needed
