Full Time Job
Hearst Digital Media is looking for a deputy editor for Cosmopolitan.com to helm its iconic Sex & Relationships vertical. The senior editor will manage a team of staff editors to conceive of, edit, assign, and report personal essays, trend pieces, and sexual health service. This position will report to the executive editor of Cosmopolitan.com.
Responsibilities:
• Manage a team and help more junior staffers grow as journalists
• Assess daily news pitches from staff editors and assign viral news posts as necessary
• Brainstorm ideas for trend pieces and short features
• Edit daily posts from staff writers, including but not limited to humor lists, personal essays, product roundups, timely op-eds, and reaction posts
• Edit weekly columns from freelance writers, including Cosmo's Sex Positions
• Assign stories to and maintain relationships with freelancers
• Execute engaging stories with high SEO potential
• Pitch in with editing other sections, such as lifestyle, as needed
Requirements:
• At least 5 years' editorial experience, with at least 3 years in digital
• Strong writing, reporting, and editing skills
• Excellent news judgment
• A deep understanding of the conversations millennials are having about sexuality and relationships
• A strong freelancer network to draw from
• Strong grasp of social media and search optimization
• Well-versed in using various analytics tools (Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, etc.)
• Bachelor's degree
