Hearst Digital Media is launching OprahMag com, a brand new site that will expand O, The Oprah Magazine's mission to help women live their best lives. We're looking for a deputy editor to oversee day-to-day operations and bring to life fresh and exciting content for the new site.
This person should have a strong background in content strategy and SEO, in addition to sharp packaging and editing skills and experience working on a fast-moving team. Our site is brand new, so we're looking for a hard worker that's as passionate about the Oprah brand as they are about the potential to lead a diverse, creative team in this exciting venture. This position will report to the digital director of OprahMag.com.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee scheduling, editing, and publishing of the daily editorial lineup, which will include a mix of breaking news, fresh service, and groundbreaking long-form features
• Build, grow, then expand the site's audience with stories covering topics from culture to health, beauty, style, self-care, and, of course, Oprah herself!
• Manage several of the team's writers, encouraging them to push boundaries and create engaging content
• Stay on top of the news and SEO trends to ensure the site is producing content that will both drive traffic and excite readers
• Work with the partnerships and search teams on content creation and strategy
• Collaborate with the photo, video, and design teams to develop dynamic photos, graphics, and multimedia elements to elevate stories
• Monitor analytics daily in order to grow traffic and engagement across all channels of the site and social platforms
Requirements:
• At least 7 years writing and editing experience in digital media
• Experience conceptualizing videos and series to support editorial stories
• A love of the Oprah brand, as well as all things culture, news, and lifestyle
• Strong knowledge of SEO best practices and a proven ability to grow traffic through search
• Experience editing and managing writers
• Strong knowledge of social media
• A keen understanding of making editorial decisions based on performance metrics using tools like Facebook Analytics, Google Analytics and Chartbeat
