The WomansDay.com and RedbookMag.com team is looking for a superstar Associate Editor to join its close-knit group based in New York. Reporting to the sites' Senior Editor and partnering with others across the magazines' print and digital editorial teams, the Associate Editor is responsible for writing, pitching, and developing a variety of evergreen and news stories for the sites daily, as well as overseeing the social media programming for both brands.
The ideal candidate has a positive attitude and is up for writing across a wide spectrum of topics and pitching in wherever needed. We're looking for someone who is full of ideas, knows how to clearly, informatively and with a digital-friendly voice, and has ideas for how to make service and inspiration stories across key lifestyle categories (home, beauty, health and family) feel fresh and surprising. If you're a pro at finding new ways to spin up tip-driven content, curate roundups with snappy copy and are obsessed with Instagram, this is the job for you.
Key responsibilities include:
• Writing and producing 2-3 service and/or news stories a day across several content verticals, including family, style/beauty, health, holidays and entertaining, shopping guides and more.
• Pitching longer-lead stories around key holidays, news and other key events or themes.
• Overseeing the social media programming for both sites on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, and Twitter, with support from a staff fellow and our print editorial teams.
• Managing social partnerships with HDM sister sites, partner brands, bloggers, etc.
• Monitoring traffic to understand what works and why, and gearing coverage towards it
• Supporting the print and marketing teams in any social-related promotions.
• Editing and updating existing site content, as needed, with fresh info and repackaging visuals.
Desired skills and experience:
• At least 2-3 years of experience writing women's lifestyle-related content in a fast-paced digital environment
• Strong writing skills and a talent for quick turn-around on clean, snappy, accurate copy
• Strong reporting and packaging skills
• Experience running social media pages for a major brand, with a proven track record for increasing followers, engagement, and traffic
• Experience with content management systems, social media tools like SocialFlow, and other basic production resources like Adobe Photoshop
• Familiarity with Google Analytics, Crowdtangle, or similar reporting tools
• Knowledge of SEO and best practices for optimizing content the web, including understanding the difference between a strong search-friendly and social-friendly headline
• Ability to keep day-to-day details organized and interact with multiple team members to take or give direction quickly
