Hearst Digital Media seeks an enterprising associate editor to work on PopularMechanics.com.
We're looking for a self-starter who's full of exciting ideas in our core areas, including cars, DIY, science, tech, aerospace, and outdoors. You'll be the voice of the brand on social media and responsible for creative ways to connect with our audience, but this job is not about scheduling Facebook posts. You'll be part of an agile team aggressively chasing news-, search-, and commerce-focused stories.
You should be a detail-oriented editor with a proven ability to produce engaging content that is cleanly written, accurately reported, and creatively packaged. You should also be a strategic thinker who is comfortable making data-driven decisions using tools such as Google Analytics, Google Trends, and SEMRush.
This position reports to the Digital Director. It is based in New York and is a digital-only role.
Responsibilities:
• Writing and editing stories with the ''How Your World Works'' Popular Mechanics tone.
• Supervising the bråand's social media accounts
• Working with the Digital Director to sharpen the site's voice and grow the audience
• Tracking SEO content performance to develop programming strategies and expand the audience
• Developing content that appeals to partners, such as Flipboard, MSN, and Apple News
Requirements:
• At least 2 years as an editor with experience in science, automotive, DIY, technology, or a combination thereof
• Deep familiarity with SEO strategy and best practices
• The ability to shift gears quickly in a daily web publishing environment
• A strong service journalism sensibility
• Knowledge of affiliate e-commerce best practices, multimedia and video experience, and familiarity with Google Analytics or other audience tracking platforms are all pluses.
