Why Hearst Magazines?
Hearst Magazines is one of the largest publishers in the world, with more than 25 brands, including Cosmopolitan, ELLE, Esquire, Good Housekeeping, Harper's BAZAAR, Popular Mechanics, and Delish. We reach more than 150 million people every month in the United States alone.
But we're more than just our magazines. We engage our audience across all mediums and channels - print, digital, video and social - with sophisticated content creation, distribution and data capabilities. We create, package and sell products with cutting-edge technology and proprietary platforms. Together, we are reinventing publishing for the 21st century.
Your Impact
House Beautiful is seeking an energized and home-obsessed assistant editor to join our team. This role supports our editors in a largely creative capacity: Besides managing the editorial inbox and conducting research for big packages and features, you'll also pitch and write your own stories, coordinate with the art team on visuals, build features in our CMS, and track their performance. Some administrative work (like building CMS stories and questionnaires as needed) will be expected, but this is very much an editorial position. Strong writing skills and the ability to work quickly, without sacrificing quality, is a must. If you follow tons of interior designers on Instagram and love reading and writing about their work, then you'll love the job.
Please note: For consideration, resumes must be submitted in PDF format with a cover letter, salary requirements, and a link to a portfolio of work.
What You'll Do:
• Pitch, research, and write 2 digital stories (news pegs, idea roundups, SEO assignments, room tours, etc) every day
• Work with art, video, and social teams to create assets to support these stories
• Assist editors with research and administrative support on big features and packages across platforms (print, digital, video, social)
• Manage the editorial inbox, forwarding pitches and story ideas to their respective recipients on our team and responding as needed
• Track content performance and data trends to optimize output
• Work with fellow editors to optimize shopping content and shoppable moments across the site.
• Contribute to print as needed
Who you are:
• 1 years experience at a magazine is preferred
• Have a strong interest in writing home design content
• A self-starter with strong writing skills and ideally some experience working in an editorial environment
• A quick thinker, hard worker, and positive team player
• Hyper organized and unafraid of getting in the weeds with a spreadsheet
• Excited to use data to inform pitches and writing
• Able to juggle multiple projects simultaneously
