Gravitas Ventures is looking for a DIRECTOR OF ACQUISITIONS who is passionate about independent film. The ideal candidate will be experienced in film evaluation, negotiation and acquisitions and excited to share thought provoking films with audiences worldwide. The position could begin immediately and will report to our CEO.
Gravitas Ventures is a leading all rights global film distributor. Founded in 2006, Gravitas connects independent filmmakers and producers with audiences across the globe. Recent distributed films include ALL WE HAD (starring and directed by Katie Holmes), THE LONGEST WEEK (starring Jason Bateman and Olivia Wilde), and FELONY (starring Joel Edgerton and Tom Wilkinson). On the documentary front, Gravitas is one of the largest distributors in the world and has released FOR THE LOVE OF SPOCK (directed by Adam Nimoy), LEGION OF BROTHERS, FASTBALL (directed by Jonathan Hock), ALL THINGS MUST PASS (directed by Colin Hanks), BEING EVEL (starring Johnny Knoxville), the BACKSTREET BOYS: SHOW 'EM WHAT YOUR MADE OF, and PEACE OFFICER which won the Grand Jury Award and Audience Award for documentary at the 2015 SXSW Film Festival.
Skills sets and responsibilities for the position include:
- Set acquisition strategy for Gravitas' annual 30 theatrical releases and 270+ direct to VOD films
- Create database of existing and future producer contacts segmented by film genre and target audience
- Cultivate and strengthen strategic relationships with content providers including sales agents (Domestic and Foreign), independent producers, production companies, TV broadcasters and SVOD platforms
- Maintain comprehensive film festival and market coverage program for Gravitas employees
- Ability to negotiate with sales agents, producers and other stakeholders on key terms for a film acquisition
- Solid work ethic and flawless professionalism dealing with producers, directors, sales agents, other distributors and Gravitas employees
- Trustworthiness, tact, and poise working with high profile clients and projects
- Applicant must be exceptionally organized, have ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, meet deadlines
and express a strong interest in independent film and distribution
- Manage and mentor a direct report acquisitions coordinator
- Position will require company paid travel to international film festivals and markets
Qualifications:
- Candidate will have 3-5 years of experience in media and entertainment
- Undergraduate degree (Masters preferred)
- Position will be based in Los Angeles or Cleveland
