Job Title: Reporter
Location: Washington, DC (Hybrid)
Job Summary:
This position will focus on covering news, events, and stories related to Africa and the African diaspora within the Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) metropolitan region. The ideal candidate has a strong sense of curiosity, excellent storytelling skills, and a passion for connecting local and international audiences through impactful journalism.
The Reporter will research, pitch, and produce original stories that highlight African communities, leaders, culture, policy, business, and events shaping the DMV area and beyond. You will conduct interviews, attend events and briefings, and deliver high-quality written and on-camera reports for broadcast and digital platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
• Generate compelling story ideas and deliver timely, well-researched coverage.
• Conduct in-depth interviews with newsmakers, community members, and subject experts.
• Write, edit, and file stories for TV, digital, and social media platforms.
• Collaborate closely with producers, editors, and camera teams in the field and studio.
• Maintain strong relationships within African and diaspora communities across the DMV.
• Uphold the highest journalistic standards of accuracy, fairness, and balance.
Qualifications:
• Some experience in reporting experience in broadcast, digital, or print media.
• Strong writing, interviewing, and storytelling skills.
• Comfort and professionalism on camera.
• Knowledge of African affairs, communities, and culture is a strong plus.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings or weekends, as news demands.
