JOB DESCRIPTION
The Assignment Desk Coordinator is responsible for supporting the daily newsgathering efforts for FOX Sports and its entities. Duties can include but are not limited to answering phones and emails, downloading and posting of videos, ensuring events are properly recorded and booking feeds, studios and homecams as assigned. This position also requires communication skills needed to acquire video materials and clearance.
Responsibilities
• Efforting acquisition of video and clearance of media from non-FOX entities via social media or licensing.
• Uploading video for affiliates and downloading of videos via FTP services. Updating shows on acquired video material and archiving material.
• Newsgathering for all FOX Sports Programming and booking transmission, studio talkbacks and homecams as assigned.
• Monitoring video feeds, setting up live event records and confirm material is going into our system.
• Clearly communicating with co-workers, producers and outside vendors.
• Maintaining our strong and fully developed relationships to facility our future needs.
• Coordinators must work to learn and check with senior staff regarding any potential legal issues in clearing content and decisions on approving content.
• Prevent misuse of non-Fox owned content.
• Keeping track of practice and game schedules, adding relevant information into our PLAN-IT, passing off projects to and from co-workers, monitoring incoming email requests, special projects assigned by managers.
Qualifications
• BS/BA in Journalism, Communications or a related degree strongly preferred; 2-3 years of editorial experience required, preferably in a newsroom environment.
• Top candidates will have strong communication skills -- both written and verbal and excellent organizational skills (the ability to prioritize projects under tight deadlines)
• Critical thinking required (to judge if a story is newsworthy, if sources need to be checked/wording is appropriate, if there is a risk to releasing certain information, and to verify accuracy and consistency of information)
• Must have strong knowledge in relation to Newsroom systems including iNews and Microsoft Office Suite. Very strong internet skills. Knowledge of using FTP and online video required.
• Proven sports knowledge that lends itself to sound news judgment
