JOB DESCRIPTION
America's Newsroom with Bill Hemmer and Sandra Smith is a 3-hour long weekday news program with an emphasis on bringing you the day's news through high profile news makers and topical experts alike. Due to the show's 3-hour length this requires a variety of bookings not limited to one topic or one sort of guest. This show strives for compelling and qualified guests who are experienced in legal, foreign, and political realms, dependent on the top stories of the day. The prospective applicant must be able to work swiftly under pressure, especially during breaking news coverage. Show schedules are privy to change with little to no notice, so applicant must be comfortable working under tight deadlines. As a Booker, you need in depth knowledge of Capitol Hill, and understand the implications of lawmakers' decisions. You must be persistent in pitching guests who can shed new and profound insights, as well as creating and cultivating ongoing relationships. The perfect candidate must be well-read in all the major newspapers, podcasts, political blogs, and have at least an intermediate understanding of how government operates.
A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Effectively communicate and understand a guests point of view on relative topics
• Conducting thorough research and compiling well rounded pre- interviews
• Sifting through past TV and print interviews to find relevant sound and perspective for our guests to react to
• Managing daily deadline turnarounds of a live-show
• Strategizing with your colleagues on best booking approaches
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
• A bachelor's degree and or relevant work experience
• You have an extensive Rolodex and can book everyone from high-profile guests, celebrities and people at the center of major news stories
• Previous booking experience
• 1-2 years of experience in television
• Strong editorial judgement
• A passion for current events
• Willing and able to work under tight deadline pressures while juggling long-term bookings
• Must be willing to work overnight and weekends when breaking news merits
