JOB DESCRIPTION
Fox News is looking for a dynamic, innovative, multi-tasking Assignment Manager with strong mentoring and leadership skills to join our Washington, D.C. team. As the Assignment Manager you will lead a team with various levels of experience to news gather, plan daily event coverage, run crews, oversee desk network pools and satellite space with the goal of keeping Fox competitive at all times. You will lead your team to enterprise and identify stories while understanding resource availability to react quickly to breaking news. You are a pro-active, passionate and self-motivated individual who will collaborate with other managers to advance the network's coverage on all platforms.
You will be assigned the following shift: Monday – Friday: 8:00AM – 5:00PM
*This position involves being available to answer questions on coverage and staffing at all hours. The ability to work evenings and weekends is needed on occasion based on bureau and breaking news needs.
A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage the Washington D.C Assignment Desk, including communicating and guiding team members to reach bureau and network objectives
• Coordinate schedules and staffing for the Assignment Desk operation, including the Satellite Desk, Planning, and Editorial and Control Room Coordinators
• Hire, train, and mentor staff
• Develop and implement effective systems to improve overall coverage needs
• Collaborate with other managers on coverage projects and bureau initiatives
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
• A Bachelor's degree and 10 years of experience, including leading or managing in a broadcast, print or digital work environment
• Exceptional editorial judgment and intricate knowledge of national and international politics
• Strong contacts and knowledge of the White House, Capitol Hill, and federal agencies
• Knowledge and ability to stay current on transmission technology, including Links, Live U, cell, Microwave and Satellite
• Knowledge of network pool operations with an emphasis on understanding the unilateral benefit
• A self-starter attitude with the ability to work independently, as well as on a team
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment, multitask, and prioritize on a daily basis, and especially in breaking news situations
• Strong logistical, communication, hiring, leadership, and mentoring skills
