JOB DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a Freelance Assignment Editor to join our DC Bureau. As the Freelance Assignment Editor you will coordinate the daily news coverage of the Washington, DC Bureau, which includes covering breaking news and responding to a consistent flow of news events at the Capitol, the White House, Pentagon and State Department, and other venues in DC. As the Assignment Editor you will prioritizes incoming editorial & logistical information and ensure it is clearly communicated to those who need it. Your natural curiosity of news and ability to aggressively seek out additional stories will allow you to excel in this role.
You may be assigned the following shift: Weekdays and Weekends, 6am – 2pm or 2pm – 10pm
A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Oversee news coverage needs of the DC Bureau
• Communicate clearly with photographers regarding coverage of events
• Respond to requests from reporters, producers and shows for interviews, live hits and event coverage
• Seek out the best and most creative ways to cover news stories
• Track Twitter and other social media sites to ensure we are being competitive
• Trafficking the DC bureau studios and coordinating/booking the incoming and outgoing feeds between DC and NY as well as around the country for the Fox News Channel
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
• A Bachelor's degree and 5 years of broadcast experience (preferably in Washington, DC)
• Good editorial judgment as well as strong logistical skills
• Keen understanding of how to gather news LIVE in the Washington, DC area
• Familiarity with satellite trucks, LiveU technology, AVOC and various fiber drops around the Washington DC area
• Knowledge of national politics and the DC area
• The ability to work well in a fast paced and intense atmosphere
• Flexibility to work various shifts/days when needed covering news in a fast paced 24-hour news environment
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
NICE TO HAVE
• Familiarity with iNews, Outlook and ScheduAll
