SENIOR DESIGN MANAGER, CDD & PD
Responsibilities
The purpose of the Senior Design Manager, CDD & PD (Hardlines) role is to carry out the product development and product approval for all Fox Consumer Products brands within Hardlines product categories such as toys, games, sporting goods and consumables. This position will report to the Executive Director, CDD & PD and will contribute to the overall entertainment licensing objectives that drive worldwide brand awareness and deliver revenue to the studio. They will be the key interface between our brands and our partners, art-directing licensees to take designs from initial idea/concept through to final production. They will work closely with our third-party rights owners and film-makers at every stage of development to ensure brand values and talent/character likeness are upheld in every product application, with all legal requirements being adhered to. As a part of the wider Creative & Product Team globally, they will also play a key role in helping to gather, report and influence upcoming consumer product trends for development. The CDD & PD goal is to extend Fox's film and television licensing titles through products that extend the film narrative to consumers through products that engage and delight. The Senior Manager, CDD & PD is a key position that leads and directs quality product development across multiple categories within Consumer Products.
Job Duties:
• Manage the day-to-day submissions of Product Development of Hardlines categories – from concept through to final production - across Fox Film and TV titles
• Manage the submissions between licensees and multiple third-parties via our online product approval system, managing timelines and expectations to meet product range development schedules.
• Work closely with licensees on a daily basis to develop line plans and oversee approvals for product design, packaging and supporting retail point of sale.
• Provide clear and concise art direction to licensees: from 3D sculpts to graphic application and typography, providing draw-overs and creative notes that guide our partners, following our character models and brand guidelines.
• Work with and influence licensees to deliver compelling product, innovation and the highest quality across all product ranges.
• Work with the design team and the Exec. Dir., CDD/PD to highlight new product trends and opportunities, develop briefs for new artwork and product design explorations.
• Constantly communicate with licensees to understand and support product initiatives and consumer preferences.
• Ensure quality product, trend-forward design and timely development across the following Hardlines categories: toys, novelties, games, puzzles, FHB, Role Play, Costumes, creative assets, branding/packaging
• Possess cross-functional team leadership by collaborating with Category, Retail, Franchise Marketing, Global and Regional Licensees, Filmmakers and Vendors
• Track and manage a budget specific to CDD & PD, trend/graphics and style guides
• Seasonally, develop global trends across all consumer products categories that translate into commercially viable product ideas that best represent Fox animated and live action franchises
• Drive direction on style guide development and partner with Hardlines licensees to deliver on-going product freshness to retail; ensure guides deliver on market trends relevant by consumer demo
• Be involved and maintain a positive attitude and inspire enthusiasm
• Implement and share best practices across the business
Qualifications/Requirements
• Bachelors or Associates Degree, preferably in product design, graphic design or related field or equivalent
• 10 years Product/Graphic Design and Development experience required with 6-8 years minimum managerial experience
• Experience with manufacturing of both soft and hard goods for multiple categories; experience in branding and packaging for consumer goods
• Demonstrated leadership skills; Highly organized, proactive – a self-starter
• Participate in travel – both local and international
• Mac proficient and advanced skills in Adobe Suite and Microsoft applications
Skills
& Experience
• Product development experience within licensing and/or manufacturing
• Knowledge of product manufacturing processes, particularly in 3D, with a good eye for detail
• Entertainment industry experience with license-based consumer product approvals
• Strong communication skills - ability to work with and influence third parties, both internal and external
• Able to suggest and visually present commercially viable product ideas and features that elevate consumer products to a new level
• Understand seasonal and current Hardlines trends, for product and packaging, globally and translate into commercially viable product ideas
• Adobe Creative Suite skills are essential. Powerpoint & Keynote skills imperative
