The primary focus of the Research Manager is to develop and manage the station's strategic marketing research projects, provide ratings and audience analysis for the station, assist in the development of sales in various advertiser categories, and contribute to the overall station marketing effort. We are looking for a proactive thinker – how can analytics help us reach our goals? What tools and data can be used to expand our audience, grow revenue, and increase our digital footprint?
The Research Manager serves as a research consultant for the entire station operation. Reporting to the Director of Sales, a key focus will be to generate revenue by (1) providing research data using tools such as Nielsen, comScore, Wide Orbit Sales, Scarborough, Media Monitors, ShareRocket, CrowdTangle and other appropriate research sources; (2) creating customized research presentations and highlighting the stations' programming and viewer strengths. The Research Manager will also be expected to support marketing, news and strategy for linear and non-linear efforts.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include: analyze overnight ratings daily and work quickly to communicate the successes of the stations' ratings through one-sheets and lengthier research pieces as needed; track and analyze ratings for stations and competition during the sweeps periods; communicate trends, successes, strengths, and weaknesses of key dayparts. In addition to supporting the Sales department Research Manager will work with News, Creative Services, and Programming. Provide decision support data to the General Manager and station department heads as needed. Have the ability to conceptualize, create and deliver high-impact multimedia sales presentations. Maintain programming, ratings and estimates in Wide Orbit Media Sales. Support sales team by attending and participating in sales calls and client presentations when appropriate. Work with National Rep Firm Telerep when necessary to create ratings estimates, coordinate one-sheets, and work on special projects. Complete research requests using Scarborough, NLTV or other marketing research sources. Keep Nielsen eNames and comScore program titles updated daily. Analyze titling options and know program guidelines. Create, run, and maintain Nielsen Arianna reports, including overnights and sweep reports. Maintain software. Monitor the Nielsen sample. Keep the staff up-to-date on Nielsen's methodology. Create, run, and analyze reports using comScore StationView Essentials. Create, run, and analyze reports using Media Monitors. Update sales programming calendars. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications Bachelor's degree is preferred and/or 2-3 years' work experience. Must possess strong strategic thinking and analytical skills. Must have knowledge and understanding of the television industry relevant to broadcast, cable and new media, including research terminology and methodology. Strong computer skills, including PowerPoint, Excel and Word. Must be organized and detail oriented with a positive attitude toward team member requests. Ability to work in fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
