First Media's Direct Response team is a performance-first marketing division at a fast-paced, millennial women's lifestyle company. We use data to make informed decisions around creative video storytelling - rather than having the data work for us. This means we are constantly looking at Facebook performance to optimize and streamline creative decisions to give our direct-to-consumer clients the best chance of success in the marketplace to grow their client-base. We never settle for ''good enough'' and react in real-time to make creative decisions and leverage how the world responds to our creatives to make it even better.
We are looking for an ambitious Video Director / DR Shooter to join our Los Angeles-based Team. This person is responsible for the complete creative life cycle of a shoot: pitching and concepting to shooting and directing to bring the vision to life.
Responsibilities:
- Creative Ideation: Work to pitch, develop and brainstorm new concepts and shoots based on what the accounts need.
- Assist Producers and the Creative Director in turning scripts into shot lists and fully fleshed out shoots.
- Direct digital media video advertisements: testimonials, food shoots/styling, glam product shoots, modeling, etc.
- Proactively engage in meetings with the production team to determine the creative elements needed to fully execute on concept.
- Independently set up shots for product shoots with appropriate lighting and set dec styling to ensure that the product looks aspirational.
- Flexibility to shoot on the go and experiment on ways to shoot while elevating the aesthetic to keep footage fresh yet aspirational.
- Determine the appropriate talent perimeters for casting, work closely with casting, and finalize top three talent choices
- Shoot and direct the footage for Facebook and Instagram advertisements, using both DSLR and iPhone cameras with the ability to operate higher cameras when needed.
- Write scripts when working on productions that require lines from talent and be flexible to tweak those lines on set when necessary
- Have a good understanding of blocking and camera movement in relation to talent
- Work closely with Visual Strategy Manager to conceptualize the art direction of the shoot, making final creative decisions on the set, lighting, and looks
- Run the set: act as Executive Producer and Director to achieve our creative goals while maintaining a professional set environment.
- Be proactive and flexible on set to read the rhythm of the talent and crew to see what alternative takes can be accomplished
Qualifications
- 3+ years directing and/or producing digital content, preferably with familiarity in user-generated content marketing
- Experience in TV advertising and art direction preferred, particularly in testimonials and lifestyle branding
- Advanced knowledge of camera, grip and lighting set-ups for TV advertising
- The ability to operate camera and do smaller product shoots independently
- High level of attention to detail
- Strong understanding of production and post production process
- Excel at supervising and delegating tasks to team members
- Highly creative, organized and able to work independently with little direction
- Ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines
- Comfortable working in a fast paced, always evolving production environment
- Educational background in marketing, advertising, or production a plus
- Experience and interest in working with beauty brands and branded product shoots are a plus
