The Position:
First Look Media is seeking an innovative Director, Creative Services with excellent visual and design skills to grow the company's brands and audiences across screens. The person in this role will lead and manage creative assets, designs, and campaigns that raise the bar across all divisions, supporting operational efforts and contributing to brand representation and growth goals. Candidates should be thoughtful, strategic and resourceful creative leaders who can develop relationships and work across departments while simultaneously working in service to our brands.
In this role you will be charged with providing design leadership, strategic thinking, and inspiration across all company brands, including: Topic's streaming service, Topic Studios, Field of Vision, The Press Freedom Defense Fund and The Intercept.
You will collaborate with our marketing, programming, product and and ops teams across divisions to ensure all creative assets and campaigns meet and deliver on the respective divisions' positioning, pillars and quality standards. Projects have a wide range from keyart development, to trailers and sizzles, to ads and social media posts, to sales presentations and event materials.
This role will manage a small team of full-time employees and freelancers who provide creative services for marketing, product, video, and the brands at large, managing creative development, the production pipeline, optimization and operational excellence. The Director, Creative Services, will report directly to the SVP, Marketing, with a dotted line report into the VP, Marketing.
The ideal candidate is a passionate creative leader who will continue to elevate the quality of all FLM brands for the industry and the consumer, while being able to roll-up their sleeves with the team in a start-up environment.
You will be a hands-on producer or designer with knowledge of digital and social media marketing trends and platforms, who can manage a multitude of projects while also working on them.
Successful candidates have demonstrated a history of managing teams and projects against business goals and delivering exceptional creative work.You will showcase strong organizational skills, video expertise, design aesthetic, typographic skills, and acute attention to detail.
You will inspire the creation of new visual styles and guide brand work that connects with our customers, and lead in developing opportunities to challenge our entire team across many mediums including video, illustration and social media.
Responsibilities:
Own the creative process from brief to production. Help clarify creative goals, lead creative development, and manage a high-volume pipeline of production assets and workflow. Prioritize all projects to ensure on-time delivery.
Work with SVP, Marketing and VP, Marketing to set the creative strategy and maintain an elevated aesthetic.
Foster positive relationships between the creative team and other departments with a high degree of collaboration, including helping the business team develop appropriate collateral and sales marketing materials.
Build an environment in which people are inspired to achieve creative excellence and take risks.
Develop and manage relationships with outside freelancers and vendors to maintain elevated creative standards
Manage, develop and mentor in-house and freelance creatives
Lead creative ideation and brainstorming sessions.
Manage, oversee and maintain best practices for the teams internal Asset Management infrastructure
Oversee best practice for style guide and partner template visual refreshes
Develop and retain an organization of outstanding design personnel
Other appropriately related projects/duties as assigned
Background & Qualifications:
7+ years of creative design experience, demonstrating strong creative and art direction skills across disciplines. High preference for experience in entertainment or media.
3+ years of experience managing creative teams, resources, and budgets
Some experience working with direct-to-consumer business preferred (e.g. subscription, e-commerce or membership).
Extensive experience with translating creative briefs into concepts and evaluating final executions
Exceptional leadership skills to produce breakthrough work in a collaborative environment
Outstanding project management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple deadlines, reconcile competing interests, and streamline workflow.
Lead cross-team conceptual development; be a strategic thought leader in developing creative that connects emotionally with audiences.
Push the limits of visual quality for marketing best practices for static, video and motion graphic visuals.
Exhibit a high level of organization and time management to ensure the timely delivery of projects.
Candidate must have a solid grasp of budgeting for all aspects of the creative services team
Experience wearing multiple hats on a small team.
While editing prowess is not required, some experience is preferred.
