FilmNation Entertainment is looking for an experienced film and television lawyer to join the Business and Legal Affairs team. The position will involve running the business affairs of all of FilmNation's development and production activities in film and television and will report to the EVP of Business & Legal Affairs, with the title to be commensurate on experience.
What you'll do:
• Negotiate and draft various development agreements in film and television, such as option purchase agreements, writer agreements, life rights agreements, showrunner agreements, producer agreements, executive producer agreements, director agreements, etc.
• Provide thoughtful legal advice on potential risks and issues in a wide range of legal areas, including potential contractual obligations, intellectual property issues (including life rights, trademark and copyright), guild issues, tax credits and other matters.
• Work closely with FilmNation's production/development executives to draft and negotiate offers for IP acquisitions and financing titles
• Negotiate and draft all above the line agreements for films produced and/or financed by FilmNation and other production-related agreements such as production services agreements, co-production agreements and production/finance/distribution agreements
• Advise and interface with key company departments, including production, marketing, and finance
• Review chain of title for third party films and acquisitions
• Draft and review non-disclosure agreements, confidentiality agreements, and consulting agreements; and assist in reviewing various corporate agreements
• Oversee a Coordinator or Manager of Business & Legal Affairs in the implementation of their duties handling below the line agreements for films financed and/or produced by FilmNation,
• Possible room for growth/expansion of role into financing, podcasting, and live theater
Basic Qualifications:
• JD required
• Minimum of 4-5 years experience negotiating and drafting contracts in film and television
• A self-motivated, proactive attorney capable of working autonomously and as a team player in a fast paced environment
Desired Characteristics
• Detail-oriented, analytical, and results-driven
• Experience working in independent film and television
• Creative deal-making abilities
• Ability to handle multiple priorities and work under deadline
• A passion for high quality content of all kinds
