Job Summary:
The Writer works as part of a production team in the creative development, preparation, and production of Katie Nolan content, following the guidance of the Producer. Works closely with talent to develop and write content ideas and show segments. Works toward the ''creative vision'' of assigned multimedia productions and features. May be assigned to various original or special projects
Responsibilities:
• Works with the production staff to create and write creative and compelling content for Always Late w/Katie Nolan; participates in or leads the development of most or all of the creative concepts for the show.
• Uses mastery of sports knowledge, creativity, and news judgment to regularly generate and pitch ideas for the rundown, concepts, and content, with a particular focus on ideation and scripting.
• Writes scripts, segments and story ideas in conjunction with Talent and other team members for the best possible content.
• Is ready and willing to take creative risks and demonstrates strong storytelling ability.
• Researches sports information and utilizes information resources in support of content creation.
• Adjusts program content to accommodate breaking news situations; interprets breaking news and translates it into program content.
Basic Qualifications:
• Good writing, especially comedy, and copy editing skills.
• Has a good appreciation of popular culture and assists with defining the tastes of ESPN's viewers.
• Must have knowledge of what works on the internet and what is realistic to accomplish in time allotted for show production.
• Has an established knowledge of sports and sports history.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Availability to work nights/weekends/holidays.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience writing in a comedic environment.
• Ability to write different styles, including long-form monologues.
• Fearlessness in generating ideas.
• Willingness to take chances, push creative boundaries.
• Desire to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
Required Education
• High school diploma or equivalent
