The ESPN Communications Department strives to grow our business as passionate and credible advocates serving with integrity the media/reporters, fans, employees and larger community worldwide.
The Communications Department includes a variety of teams including: ESPN Images; the ESPN Communications Production Group; the public-facing corporate blog ESPN Front Row; the internal company intranet site ESPN ITK; the media information site ESPN MediaZone; ESPN TV Listings; ESPN Fan Central; ESPN Archives and ESPN Presentations, as well as oversees several social media handles across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn.
Responsibilities:
A Day in the Life:
In addition to general Communications duties, assist with planning, acquiring and producing materials for upcoming company productions and events – MLB/All-Star Game, ESPYS, ESPN Films, NFL & College Football, Little League World Series and more. There may be an opportunity to occasionally travel to the NYC office, plus work on business-related content including support on Marketing initiatives.
Prepare news releases and online media kits; write bios; develop ''home town'' and ITK stories; upload images and releases to media site; maintain and/or create media lists; assist with creation and dissemination of video clips.
Responsibilities
may include:
• Media Relations/Customer Service
• Attend inter-departmental and cross-company meetings
• Writing of bios, news releases and online content
• Corporate Blogging on ESPN Front Row
• Internal Communications on ITK
• Media site maintenance and uploading materials
• Leverage and manage Digital Assets including creation and dissemination
• Video editing and design
• Creation of social cards and other graphic elements
Basic Qualifications:
What You Bring to the Role:
• Excellent writing (press releases, bios and other basic press materials) skills
• Sports knowledge and strong interpersonal communications skills
• Familiarity of video and graphic design software
• Understanding and proficiency in multiple social media platforms
• Ability to juggle multiple projects
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in a Sports Information office, newspaper and/or team media relations office
• Demonstrated leadership experience in a professional role, organization or activity
Required Education
• Enrolled as a junior, senior or graduate student in an accredited college/university in the semester prior to the internship
Preferred Education
• Journalism or Communications major
Additional Information:
Internship Eligibility:
• Must be enrolled in a college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship. May 2019 graduates are still eligible.
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program.
• Must possess unrestricted work authorization
Program Dates: The length of this internship is 10 weeks, and the approximate dates are June 10 – August 16, 2019. Interns will work 40 hours per week and must be fully available throughout the internship.
Housing: This internship is located in Bristol, CT. A limited amount of housing assistance may be available for those who qualify.
Transportation: Must provide own transportation to/from work.
