Job Summary:
The Senior Editorial Producer will oversee the content strategy, development and production of a new storytelling podcast series for ESPN. This premium content will offer depth, insight and an original, enterprising approach to sports journalism. Top candidates for this role will have exceptional journalistic and leadership skills, a creative approach to storytelling and production, and experience managing a dynamic team. In addition to shaping the vision and leading all planning and execution for storytelling podcasts, this person will collaborate with other company leaders on distribution and multiplatform integration of the product.
Responsibilities:
• Works with Original Content executives to develop and articulate the vision for the new series, as well as set agenda for short and long-range editorial calendar and planning.
• Manages a team of audio storytellers, producers and editors on all aspects of development and production of the narrative podcast series.
• Drives the creative conception from ideation to execution.
• Researching, writing and producing coverage as necessary.
• Provides clear and productive notes on scripts and programs in production.
• Supervises the compiling and editing of production materials necessary for all relevant platforms.
• Ensures highest-quality production, and that journalistic and legal standards are followed.
• Collaborates on integration and distribution with key constituents across ESPN, including Radio, Marketing, Sales, Digital, and TV Production.
• Cultivates relationships with prospective external production partners.
• Assists in the recruitment and development of production and editorial talent.
• Coordinates with marketing team around key events, from planning to execution of regular promotion for the series on internal and external platforms.
• Leverages data/analytics/user testing to inform decisions.
• Budget management.
Basic Qualifications:
• Minimum eight years of experience as an editorial leader/manager and creative storyteller in an original content environment, with extensive knowledge of podcasting and digital audio industry.
• Deep passion and knowledge in a wide range of subject areas related to sports.
• Meticulous attention to detail and experience planning long-term projects.
• Strong understanding of production principles designed to drive audio consumption across various internal and external platforms including but not limited to podcast downloads.
• Familiarity with ESPN content across all platforms.
• Exceptional journalistic and editorial instincts, and writing ability.
• Familiarity with audio hardware, software and facilities.
• Strong skills in the area of digital listening trends and engagement.
• Ability to work quickly and efficiently under deadline pressure.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Thrives in team setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Sports writing and/or radio experience preferred.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
