Job Summary:
At the direction of the Senior Vice President and Vice President of ESPN Events, the Executive Director of the Gasparilla Bowl is responsible for the day-to-day management and operations of the bowl game. Essential duties will include, but are not limited to, sales development and procurement, marketing, game operations and dealing with a local advisory board made up of sponsors and civic leaders. The Executive Director will work directly with the schools and the member conferences to ensure a positive and rewarding bowl experience for all participants.
Responsibilities:
• Develop a Marketing and Sales plan for both sponsorship and ticket sales to develop an annual budget.
• Create an annual plan that charts out and implements bowl-related activities including bowl week and other ancillary programs.
• Work with the EPI staff in Charlotte and provide required feedback related to sales, marketing efforts, status updates and event recaps.
• Be a leader within the community and speak on behalf of the bowl at civic functions and other events as necessary.
• Work with EPI to mold the direction of the bowl with respect to future match-ups.
• Work with sponsors, the executive committee and the business community to ensure healthy relations and long-term partnerships with all parties.
• Develop the sales and marketing strategy and its implementation for all bowl events and other related activities.
• Develop and present effective sales concepts and proposals in an effort to secure corporate sponsorship.
• Coordinate the fulfillment of all Bowl-related sponsorships.
• Oversee selling of corporate ticket packages; create/develop new event opportunities in the Tampa market.
Basic Qualifications:
• Minimum of 5 years' professional experience.
• Experience managing and implementing multiple budgets.
• Proficient computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Basic understanding of intercollegiate athletics.
• Experience in managing an events staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in a sports or event marketing capacity – including, but not limited to, a CVB, athletic department, professional sports franchise, an existing bowl or other related business.
• Has managed a diverse staff including sales and operations.
• Strong understanding of intercollegiate athletics and the bowl ''community''.
• Demonstrated excellence in dealing with sponsors and stakeholders.
Required Education
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent
