Job Summary:
The International Research Director will be based in Miami and support the Miami Latin America pan-regional sales team. This individual will be tasked with developing and delivering key market insights, fact based research arguments and strategies that are critical to Ad Sales Management in generating revenues, day-to-day client negotiations and in quantifying the value of the ESPN portfolio - including pay TV networks and digital properties.
This position will also have a consultancy role to the ad sales senior management team, providing strategic insights that can drive better informed decision making, maximize revenues and impact sales.
Responsibilities
also include: managing proprietary ad hoc projects such as brand studies and ad effectiveness projects, educating and promoting with respect to best research practices, results and concepts, positioning ESPN as a market leader though thought leadership projects and presentations and overseeing and developing a research team.
Position reports to VP, International Research. Ideal candidate is a strong communicator and proactive self-starter driven by desire to be a key member of a winning team.
Responsibilities:
• Maximize and increase ad sales revenue by delivering key market insights, fact based ad sales arguments and strategies, harmonizing findings across a variety of ESPN research assets (i.e. TV and digital ratings, custom research, brand studies, online communities, and syndicated research) to deliver concise cross-platform audience stories
• Elaborate and deliver research arguments that provide specialized and compelling research stories (Reach & frequency, digital traffic, social media metrics, affinity, strength of brand, audience profiles, share of investment, , ratings & share, pre and post buy analysis (among others)) that are critical to the TV and digital ad sales process and closing business deals and that maximize ESPN's advertising dollars / share of the ad sales pie and revenue among pay TV and digital sports competitors
• Develop a consultant and information ''curator'' positioning to the research department: work to create a positioning of expertise and thought leader internally with partner departments. Partner with ad sales teams to better understand needs, curate relevant information and share clear and actionable insights, customized to internal and external clients' needs and realities.
• Manage ad hoc research projects: design, plan and manage qualitative and quantitative ad sales research projects, going beyond ratings in providing country specific and pan regional research insights to be used in strengthening ad sales relationships and market understanding
• Supervise the delivery of regularly produced reports always keeping in mind the overall quality and looking for opportunities to innovate and enhance reports. Add a layer of strategic insights and recommendations to all regularly produced deliverables
• Educate and promote: serve as internal research authority to ensure ESPN's ad sales management is up-to-date on the most compelling research arguments, surveys and strategies
• Position ESPN as market leader: through thought leadership research pieces, innovative research presentations and hosted events position ESPN at the forefront of audience & sports fans insights. Represent the international research group in meetings with vendors to establish strong external relationships and ensure proper delivery of collateral.
• Train and supervise junior associates, overseeing tactical execution of reports, setting appropriate goals, and delivering guidance on research methodologies.
• Work together with International research colleagues in building custom research projects ensuring the viewpoints & requirements of primary internal constituents are addressed in a consistent fashion.
• Collaborate with U.S. research team to craft global audience stories and insert domestic findings into international reports to provide intriguing context as appropriate.
Basic Qualifications:
• Minimum 10 years of related Research experience
• Minimum 5 years of people management experience
• Expertise with Latin American research industry tools, including IBOPE, Nielsen, TechEdge, TGI, ComScore, Adobe Analytics
• Strong knowledge of media research methodology, resources, and applications
• Bilingual, English and Spanish a must
• HIGH LEVEL communication and presentation skills - oral and written - concise, clear and impactful
• Experience in Managing people and complex projects
• Analytical, and numbers oriented - ability to manage, interpret and present large volumes of numbers
• Ability to work independently
• Comfortable and able to work in fast paced environment with tight deadlines and multiple projects
• Ability to independently prioritize workload and deal with numerous internal clients and working styles
Required Education
• Bachelor's Degree
