Job Summary:
ESPN Sports Analytics is a multidisciplinary group where all members have deep knowledge of sports, statistics, databases, programming logic and languages, and storytelling. Combining best-in-the-industry data with advanced mathematics and statistical modeling skills, Sports Analytics has created storytelling tools and metrics that
have improved the evaluation of team and player performance, such as Total QBR and power ratings for football, basketball, soccer and more. These products make fans better informed and help keep ESPN at the cutting edge of sports statistical analysis.
The Sports Analytics Associate will support the formulation of these performance metrics by assisting in the gathering and verifying of data. Candidates need to understand analytics metrics and communicate results both internally and externally. The Analytics Associate will assist in helping the team tell stories in the most accurate way, using advanced analysis and matching the storytelling to the medium. Translating the complex into an understandable language is a key component.
The Sports Analytics Associate will work in a team environment both assisting Analytics Specialists as well as Stats & Information staffers outside the Analytics Team. This includes gathering and verifying data, attending and contributing to meetings and training sessions, and helping educate concepts, metrics and tools to Statistics and Information employees.

Responsibilities:
• Understanding data requirements and ensuring integrity and accuracy of all databases utilized by the Sports Analytics team
• Ability to use advanced mathematics and statistical modeling to assist in the modeling of sports performance metrics
• Assist team to educate Production on the use of Sports Analytics storytelling tools and metrics
• Identify trends and help the team react to news stories using the tools developed by the Sports Analytics team
Basic Qualifications:
• A minimum of two years' experience with sports analytics or a bachelors' degree in a related field of study
• Experience with predictive modeling, statistics, trend analysis, and other data analysis techniques
• Full availability for this position, which will include nights, weekends and holidays
• Demonstrated ability to ensure accuracy of content
• Experience with programming languages such as R, PL/SQL, VBA, or Python
• A knowledge of sports statistical analysis in the marketplace
• Strong sports knowledge, both historical and current
Preferred Qualifications:
• Statistics, engineering, advanced mathematics or econometrics degree
• Experience turning sports analytics into storylines
• Experience in digital and/or television sports production
• Ability to speak and write Spanish
Required Education
• Bachelor's Degree
Preferred Education
• Master's Degree in Statistics, engineering, advanced mathematics or economics strongly preferred
