Job Summary:
The Associate Manager, Programming – Soccer and Rugby, manages the day-to-day strategic scheduling of soccer and rugby content across ESPN networks and platforms. This role contributes to setting the acquisition strategy in the soccer and rugby categories and includes some negotiation and partnership management with select properties. This person must be able to communicate and collaborate across all ESPN departments and with external rightsholders to meet desired goals.
The Associate Manager, Programming – Soccer and Rugby reports to the Senior Director, Programming and Acquisitions.
Responsibilities:
• Responsible for short and long-range strategic program schedule planning for assigned soccer and rugby properties across ESPN Networks and platforms.
• Work with key external Programming partners such as MLS, U.S. Soccer, UEFA, NWSL, USL, various rights agencies, and other national networks to develop the individual schedules for assigned properties and manage the implementation of joint initiatives to drive ratings and exposure to the categories.
• Day-to-day management of the ESPN Soccer and Rugby portfolio on ESPN which includes scheduling, internal point of contact for Disney Streaming Services on all things soccer and rugby, and data reporting delivery to external partners.
• The position will require consistent communication and interaction with all internal ESPN departments including Production, Sales and Marketing, Finance, Research and Legal.
• In conjunction with Research, focus on identifying trends within the marketplace, with other networks and on ESPN with regard to ratings, demographics and avidity that will inform current and future decision-making in the assigned sport properties.
• Monitor the competitive landscape in the sport categories and keep the department and company up to speed on important developments.
Basic Qualifications:
• Minimum of 3 years of work experience in television programming or related fields.
• Strong overall sports knowledge with a particular focus on domestic/international soccer and rugby.
• Excellent oral/written communication skills.
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships at all working levels.
• Ability to read and interpret contracts.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Knowledge of CS system or other ORACLE based software.
• Bilingual (Spanish).
Required Education
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Communications, Business, Sports Management, or other related field.
