Job Summary:
We need an insights-driven, collaborative, and proactive leader who can develop and execute marketing strategies to reach priority audiences. The Associate Director, Marketing will lead marketing strategy and audience development – including brand planning, creative messaging, marketing campaign planning/execution, and experiential activations – for X Games, Little League World Series, The Ocho, The Undefeated, and other emerging properties. This position will serve as a female and youth audience expert, with a priority focus on leveraging expertise to drive audience expansion for those segments across all of ESPN's sport properties, in partnership with Marketing department brand managers.
The ideal candidate will leverage insights, best practices, and superior communication skills to define and champion strategies across multiple stakeholders. The candidate is immensely collaborative and is driven by uncovering the best approach to reaching priority sports audiences and helping to make ESPN's offerings hyper-relevant to their lives.
Must enjoy working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a proven ability to handle a high-volume workload with a positive attitude.
This role reports into the Senior Director of Marketing.
Responsibilities:
• Lead development of smart, creative marketing plans with clear positioning and messaging that drive the business for X Games, Little League World Series, The Ocho, esports, The Undefeated, and other sports properties.
• Lead research efforts/learning plan development for assigned opportunity audiences in collaboration with Research and Corporate Strategy groups. Leverage insights to create audience development strategies.
• Support and partner with senior leadership and key stakeholders on understanding business of objectives and setting marketing strategy for specific tentpoles within each property.
• Lead development of marketing briefs to internal and external partners in support of priority programming and creative development from inception to approvals and execution.
• Manage day-to-day relationship with external and internal creative partners including the planning and management of full timeline and budget.
• Lead multiple, weekly meetings with cross-functional teams (Programming, Media, Creative Works, Research) to ensure alignment on plans and initiatives for brand, digital, and social integration.
• Primary point of contact between the Marketing and Social media teams for associated properties.
• Day-to-day management of league marketing relationships.
• Oversee Associate Manager in development and delivery of marketing assets both internally and with media partners.
• Oversight of all aspects of production of marketing assets.
• Act as mentor to (direct report) Associate Manager and guide their professional growth within the organization.
• Be the resident expert on assigned properties.
Basic Qualifications:
• Minimum of five years' experience (brand or agency), with comprehensive experience executing multi-channel marketing plans; expertise in developing and executing experiential marketing initiatives.
• Proven leadership ability – experience managing external agencies, internal partners.
• Strong relationship builder, skilled at navigating a hyper-matrixed organization.
• Persuasive storyteller and presentation abilities. Must be comfortable developing and delivering strategic presentations.
• Passion for data-driven marketing and experience with devising effective strategies based on insights.
• Can foster and grow talent.
• Ability to manage a budget.
• Some travel required.
• Energetic, enthusiastic, and able to work in a fast paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Agency strategy or account management experience highly preferred.
• Youth marketing background.
