Job Summary:
The Art Directors responsibilities consist of managing and overseeing the artistic design and project management of a single or multiple broadcast graphic packages. The Art Director is responsible for developing concepts, approving work from the creative team, present creative to Creative Director, Senior Creative staff and Production units for final approval. The Art Director scope of management can range from the creative project development with the internal Creative Services group, external animation or print vendors, and freelance production crews. The Art Director is held accountable to manage client's expectations, workflow, timelines, and production deliverables. The Art Director is in charge of building teams, inspiring, motivating, and leading the Motion Design group, Production Editors, Audio Design Editors on production assignments. The Art Director plays an integral role to develop organizational processes and protocols, and deliver high quality, on-deadline, on-brand design and animation packages. The Art Director will work closely with our CS Project Management team to provide guidance on creative planning, resource allocation, workflows and quality control of final deliverables. This position will collaborate directly with all divisions of Creative & Studio Direction, Post-Edit, Content Edit, Creative Works, Digital and Print creative groups.
An Art Director in Concept Design is a high-level individual who is expected to consistently set the bar on quality, communication, innovation, and creativity.
Responsibilities:
• Keeps the design standards of the artistic team at the highest possible level.
• Strong team building skills. Is able to motivate, nurture, groom, develop, lead and direct a team or individual Designers, Animators, Editors and others assigned to a project whether in-house, freelance or with an external production house. This scope of leadership and creative mentoring extend to all skill set levels at ESPN.
• Responsible for developing and maintaining a creative culture
Basic Qualifications:
• - Ability to manage budgets for outside print and contractor projects associated with practical and live action shoots.
• Ability to work well with in a team environment and be able to take direction from Creative Director. Exhibits very strong communication skills (both oral and written) to enable him/her to lead the creative team and present concepts.
• Drives conceptualization of assigned projects ensuring delivery of innovative and quality design and animation.
• Responsible for monitoring assigned properties to ensure consistency of creative direction, identity and quality are maintained.
• Collaborates and coordinates with Creative Directors to ensure the highest quality and creative direction are met.
• Tailors execution of assignments to the technical requirements and resource constraints of each project.
• Assists in Recruiting, interviewing new project and full-time Motion Graphic hires.
• Works hand in hand with the Creative Producing team and Motion Graphics Management group to ensure all aspects of the projects are delivered to with the utmost excellence in customer service. This includes organized review sessions, regular project updates and exceeding client expectations for creativity and quality.
• Prepares design proposals and presentations with Creative Producing team
• Provides professional and concise feedback to CS Management staff.
• Forges relationships outside Creative Services group with other departments and represents Creative services design philosophy and the ESPN brand.
• Ability to work nights and weekends and extra hours as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
• 9 years of hands-on design, graphics, animation, or motion graphics experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Cinema4D, Maya, or related software equivalents in a major TV market or network level.
• Graphic production process expertise.
• Must possess strong design skills, with a demonstrated sense of visual taste and style, and the ability to formulate and develop motion graphic concepts.
• Ability to work well within a team environment
• Strong communication (both oral and written) and presentation skills.
• Advanced knowledge and broad understanding of ESPN programming requirements and broadcast television protocols.
• Graphic production process expertise.
• Passion for sports and a desire to create visually appealing imagery to enhance programming.
• Familiarity with programming and family of networks.
• Partnering and teamwork skills
• Detail oriented, with the ability to multitask and deliver consistently with accuracy in a fast paced environment.
Required Education
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
