Job Title: Paralegal
Job Description: Reporting to the EVP of legal affairs, Paralegal duties include:
. create and maintain a centralized copyright file; and
. draft copyright registrations for all new EMI sound recordings and audiovisual works; and maintain the Copyright Office deposit account.
. maintain the EMI North America trademark files;
. assist attorneys with pending trademark applications, renewals, docket watching notices, and oppositions.
. support piracy and infringement actions brought by the company or industry organizations by providing evidence of copyright ownership, including drafting declarations of ownership and collecting chain of title documentation; support actions for trademark infringement and cyber-squatting by providing information relevant to the company's marks;
. Research and prepare reports identifying potential online litigation targets or potential business partners in coordination with Digital Business Development department;
. monitor the Internet for unauthorized product; and
. draft C&D letters.
. assist in responding to discovery requests; assist in answering subpoenas;
. respond to liens, levies, and garnishment orders;
. research claims asserted against company;
. research and file claims for unclaimed property held in the Company's name;
. create and maintain files related to litigation
. Providing administrative and paralegal support to attorneys in the Legal Affairs Department.
. Type and revise settlement agreements, legal correspondence and other documents (primarily using MS Word, MS Excel and PowerPoint).
. Prepare correspondence.
. Maintain attorneys' calendars; coordinate and schedule conference calls and meetings; input and update contact information using Outlook.
. Answer and cover phones for department attorneys
. Coordinate travel arrangements for attorneys when needed; process expense reports.
. Organize and file litigation documents on an ongoing basis.
. Substantial liaising and following up for information from company and outside personnel.
Other Specific Requirements
Essential
-Degree qualified or equivalent
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills, extremely detail-oriented, with a professional demeanour -Self-starter, who has the desire to take initiative and be resourceful -Ability to multi-task and prioritize as is needed -Must work well under pressure.
-Must have excellent typing and computer skills, including proficiency in Excel
Desirable
-Previous experience with/or an interest in learning the details of the music industry is desirable -Knowledge of music also helpful
