Position Description:
The General Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations and overall business objectives at The Haunt. This individual will work directly with the partners to maintain a first class live music environment for artists, patrons and guests. .
Duties Include:
Conduct operations with a Guest First mindset
Maintain appropriate atmosphere (lights, sound level, room temperature, cleanliness, line of sight, table maintenance, room capacity)
Participate in developing long and short-term plans for revenue growth and cost control measures
Facilitates proper communication and organization in the venue, as well as to and from Home Office
Provides overall leadership and support for all staff and management by creating the appropriate culture and character of the venue through his/her own personal and professional conduct
Manages physical plant/facility to ensure proper maintenance and repair
Maintains food & beverage budget through inventory management, pricing and process improvement and proper training of staff
Works closely with local, state and governmental organizations in maintaining highest standards or health, sanitation and cleanliness in food and beverage areas
Maintains positive talent relations by developing a solid understanding of the music industry, to ensure that artists and industry representatives have positive experiences in the venue
Promotes positive employee relations including effective delegation of duties and fostering high staff morale
Fosters and maintains community and partner relations that will further the interests of the company and venue
Creates very positive guest relations/experiences in a manner that portrays an energetic, sympathetic image of the venue
Ensure systems and processes are in place for all cost controls/inventories
Develops new revenue streams including private events and food and beverage promotions
Manages inventory and the ordering of all goods.
Manages all venue vendors, and establishes relationships with new vendors and distributors.
Responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, managing, and scheduling staff, including bartenders, kitchen staff, and security.
Establishes and promotes a comfortable and safe environment for all staff and patrons. Ensures compliance with work place standards.
Builds relationships with the Ithaca community, and helps increase special events and rentals at the venue. Schedules and facilitates walk throughs with potential clients.
Regularly checks maintenance needs, and reviews and updates permit requirements.
Oversees basic venue accounting and manages staff payroll.
Handles the financial settlement of shows with artists and tour managers.
Prepares and monitors a venue budget. Tracks finances and communicates trends with DSP Shows.
Works as a liaison between DSP Shows and venue staff. Works closely with DSP Shows to advance shows and discuss staffing and attendee demographics for individual shows. Frequently communicates this information to venue staff.
Optimizes the guest experience and artist experience.
Monitors and reviews employee performance on a consistent basis.
Oversees customer service and communicates with the general public regarding show information, ticket sales, and general questions/inquiries via phone, email, and social media. Trains staff on customer service policies.
Manages the venue box office during concerts.
Works closely with DSP Shows to build a vision for the club by identifying and maximizing revenue drivers, while creating a positive and enjoyable experience for all patrons and musicians.
The Ideal Candidate:
(State or County Licensee or Certification Requirement)/ Responsible Alcohol Awareness Training Certification or Equivalent
Minimum Associates Degree (2 year degree)
3 years supervisory experience in high volume restaurant/music hall environment
Flexible Schedule with the ability to work late hours
Experience/interest in wines, spirits, and Mixology
Tolerance of all cultures, music and art forms
Requires excellent communication skills, both verbally and written
Knowledge of state, federal and local liquor laws and health code regulations
Ability to deal with intoxicated guests in a positive and safety minded manner
Skilled in decision making, leadership, guest relations, interpersonal communications, organization, team building, time management, and staff management
Ability to motivate staff, problem solve, lead, delegate, follow up, deal with volatile situations with tact and confidence
Physical Demands/Working Environment:
Working environment is fast-paced, often loud and stressful
Position requires extended periods of prolonged standing and working on your feet
Must be able to lift or move up to 25 lbs using proper lifting techniques
Competitive salary is commensurate with experience.

The company was founded as Dan Smalls Presents in 2008 by Dan Smalls and became DSP Shows in 2015 with the addition of partner John Sanders.
