Responsibilities
DreamWorks Animation Television seeks an intern for the Public Relations department in Glendale, CA. This department leads the development and execution of the studio's external communication and Public Relations strategy, working cross-functionally with Television Marketing, Consumer Products, Franchise, Publishing, Retail Development, Production and other internal executives to cohesively communicate the company's vision, values, and brand. The intern will work closely with the department staff in ongoing activities, including coordination of media opportunities and press relations, development of written materials and reports, scheduling and meeting coordination, maintenance of executive speaking engagement calendars, and support at publicity events.
The Intern will gain knowledge of DreamWorks Animation Television and become familiar with the current slate of shows.
Become acclimated with the day-to-day needs of a publicity department, including the distribution of press breaks, maintaining press lists, writing draft press releases and practicing inter-departmental communication.
Learn the process of asset management and selection (production stills and clips), press mailer development and blogger activity creation.
Assist in multiple award submission processes, including the Annie and Daytime Emmy Awards.
Become familiar with regularly cited entertainment industry outlets, as well as niche animation trade outlets and the journalists who write for each.
Gain experience and knowledge of the following events and the planning process of each: blogger days, satellite media tours, press visits, press screenings, and general press days.
Be able to differentiate between varying publicity practices for animated television shows on a streaming service compared to linear television.
Qualifications/Requirements
Must be a Junior or Senior BA/BS candidate currently enrolled in a college or university.
Desired Characteristics
The ideal candidate will have an interest in entertainment, publicity, marketing and media relations. Must have strong computer proficiency, including knowledge of Word, Excel, Photoshop, Gmail, and Acrobat Pro. Experience in Vocus and/or Cision is a plus. Communications background is preferred. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to plan and execute on multiple projects simultaneously. Must have a professional manner and be detail-oriented with strong organizational skills. Please note we are not able to sponsor international students for this internship.
