Full Time Job
Job Summary:
This position works with the Design Director to ensure that all photographic content is aligned with Nat Geo Kids brand style and identity and works with the Photography Manager to maintain the National Geographic level of excellence in photography. Works closely with editors and designers to produce photographic content for both solo and series titles.
Responsibilities:
You Will:
• Source photographic content for approx. 16-18 titles each year.
• Oversee photos in assigned projects and support other duties for various kid's book projects as assigned.
• Thoroughly research concepts and subject matter to obtain the best quality and most eye-catching photography that is possible to license.
• Work with manufacturing to assure accurate color reproduction quality, being mindful of schedules and budgets.
• Organizes and produces studio and on-location shoots. Works with art directors to storyboard photos and create shot lists.
• Work with independent contractors/book packagers to ensure they are maintaining level of excellence in photographic content.
• Research, download, and organize images for Spot Photo Pools as needed.
• Gather and enter caption and credit info into appropriate database.
• Keyword and upload photos to internal library
• Negotiate competitive rates with photo sources.
• Stay abreast of trends in market research that pertain to audience and buyer.
• Review books by licensees in OPA to ensure they are aligned with Nat Geo Kids brand identity and standards of excellence for National Geographic photos.
• Follow brand style guide and photo process guides to implement research for photos
• Partner with Kids publishing group to brainstorm ideas with editors.
• Responsible for high-quality reproduction in alignment with National Geographic's visual reputation.
Basic Qualifications:
You Have:
• 5 years of children's publishing/photo editing related experience in sourcing photographic content, with an emphasis on kid's books, and the versatility to handle other kid's media projects as needed
• Ability to recognize styles of photography and source within the brand vision as outlined by the Nat Geo Kids style guide
• Knowledge of the printing processes and color reproduction
• Excellent eye for photography
• Photo and Video Shoot experience is a plus
• Ability to speak about vision for photographic content at creative meetings like weekly creative review and cover concept
• Able to negotiate effectively with photo sources
• Proficient in Photoshop, Bridge, Acrobat, PowerPoint, Word and Excel
• Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
• Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently
Required Education
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
