Job Summary:
Disney Publishing Worldwide is seeking an Editor who will edit and manage 6-10 titles/year for the National Geographic Adult Book imprint. A passion for books, impeccable editing skills, 5 years of project management experience, and strong knowledge of adult non-fiction publishing categories are essential. You will report to a Senior Editor.
Responsibilities:
• Work with Senior Editor to edit and manage 6–10 illustrated and non-illustrated titles per year, for the Nat Geo Adult Book imprint as well as key Nat Geo branded initiatives
• Edit and supervise projects from acquisition and contract stage through to final bound book; craft acquisitions presentations, write editorial letters, perform line-edits, write bound galley and jacket copy, review and route passes, manage author and agent care
• Collaborate with the design and photo teams on covers and overall package for each project
• Collaborate with the sales, marketing, and publicity teams on positioning and promotion for each project
• Work with managing editorial to ensure project schedules are maintained and delivered on time and on budget
• Ensure that all editorial development pieces of the project come together in a timely manner and adhere to word counts and other stated specs.
• Report to Senior Editor and/or Editorial Director on project development and challenges throughout project timeline.
• Present titles at sales conference and launch meetings and at various internal meetings
• Request and negotiate work for hire and royalty contracts for projects involving a royalty author
• Develop, nurture, and maintain new and ongoing relationships with authors, artists, agents, and industry professionals
Basic Qualifications:
• 6 years of publishing experience that demonstrates increasing editorial responsibility.
• Exceptional editorial experience, keen understanding of the marketplace, and innovative project management skills in the adult book category
• Excellent writing and verbal communications skills and exceptional knowledge of the National Geographic brand and mission
Required Education
• Bachelor's degree
