Job Summary:
The Publicity Director will develop and lead the strategic execution of multiplatform PR campaigns across consumer, trade and business media for the Kids Communications team with a focus on live-action Disney Channels Worldwide programming for kids, tweens and families including franchise properties. Content may span across multiple platforms including Disney Channel, Disney XD, Radio Disney, DisneyNOW and Disney's upcoming direct-to-consumer streaming service. Strong press relationships with TV and entertainment media (including broadcast-TV and radio, print/online, bloggers), and the ability to find, formulate and successfully pitch news stories is essential. A minimum of 10 years of experience and skill in developing and executing publicity campaigns for television series, television movies and television-related programming events is required. Ability, ease and professionalism in managing internal and external relationships (e.g., talent, creative talent, talent representatives, all levels of colleagues across business units). The position is based in Burbank, CA and reports to the Executive Director of Communications.
Responsibilities:
• Develop press copy and other press materials and craft messaging for talent and series' creative teams
• Identify and develop creative news angles to publicize programming and special events.
• Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with consumer and trade reporters, segment producers, and online/blog contacts, showrunners, talent representatives, producers and executives.
• Pitch features and profile story ideas to media outlets.
• Act as a liaison between talent, executive producers and press.
• Secure, oversee, coordinate and manage / cover press interviews, set visits, press events, photo shoots and in-studio interviews.
• Develop and executive media events including red carpet premieres, press junkets, and press trips for talent and creative teams.
• Actively seek and cultivate newsworthy information from talent and creative teams that can be pitched to press.
• Develop and create PR tool kits and assets in partnership with video and photo producers that will support project and business goals
• Collaborate with colleagues across Disney Channels and Disney | ABC Television Communications to generate ideas and PR for properties and franchises.
• Effectively and succinctly communicate internally including across departments and lines of business, and externally to a variety of parties to ensure the best representation of Disney Channels Worldwide.
• A robust understanding of kid's television, properties and brands and the ability to ensure proper positioning in the media.
• Facilitate brainstorming meetings with internal partners, showrunners and other groups to generate PR strategies for shows and projects.
• May provide leadership and direction to team members on a project basis.
Basic Qualifications:
• Minimum 10 years publicity experience in TV/Entertainment
• Must demonstrate superb written and verbal communication skills
• Must have excellent understanding of effective media relations practices
• Must have working knowledge of reporters who cover TV/Entertainment
• Must be self-motivated and proactive with the ability to manage multiple projects
• Must have strong interpersonal skills, and be capable of working independently and in a team atmosphere
• Must have familiarity with social media
• Must be computer literate (minimally Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
• Must have a sound work ethic, desire and commitment to accept increasingly greater challenges and responsibilities
• Must have ability to adapt in a fast-paced corporate work environment
• Must have an understanding of and demonstrate high emotional intelligence
• Must be professional at all times and positively contribute to a culture of mutual respect
• Must be able to expertly manage time, meet deadlines and prioritize workload
• Must take responsibility and accountability for assigned projects
• Must have a stable work history
