The Role
The Vice President, Strategic Partnerships and Development (VPSPD) serves as a member of the executive leadership team and is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive business strategy to identify and secure new business opportunities to accelerate revenue growth for Discovery Education. He/she will lead and manage the strategy for acquiring and creating high-quality content to enhance Discovery Education’s products/services and drive profitability. The VPSPD will leverage his/her extensive network to collaborate and create partnerships with technology, marketing, content, and strategic partners to create new distribution channels and to increase awareness of Discovery Education and its value proposition globally. This role will also work closely with internal leaders across the company to find new content integration opportunities and additional revenue streams that accelerate the achievement of Discovery Education’s strategic objectives. The ideal candidate will be passionate about quickly generating and sustaining substantial partnership opportunities from which Discovery Education can expand its position as an industry leader.
Responsibilities
1. As a member of the senior leadership team, participate in setting the strategic and operational direction of the company
2. Represent the company and deliver presentations at events and conferences to build content partnership opportunity awareness and expand partner network
3. Develop and manage strategic partnerships with the objective of driving profitable sales of the company’s products and services in conjunction with partners
4. Responsible for supporting and executing on strategic initiatives and projects as assigned by the President of K-12 Education
5. Identify and create business partnerships and deals by analyzing market strategies, deal requirements, potential, and financials and successfully close those deals that align with business priorities in support of driving growth
6. Access, maintain and build strong relationships with current partners and develop an expanded web of influence through new partnerships
7. Work with partners and staff to develop new product ideas and identify opportunities in response to current and future market conditions
8. Identify additional features and functions that increase the overall value of current products and services
9. Establish both short-term financial results and long-term revenue streams
10. Accelerate the extension of existing business lines and create new, ancillary lines of business to drive growth and profitability
11. Collaboratively work with Marketing team to communicate Discovery Education’s value proposition
12. Work in conjunction with sales leadership to identify new market opportunities
13. Identify issues/barriers to revenue growth and formulate a strategic solution
14. Manage the P/L, including sales, profits, earnings, overseeing expenses, setting investment priorities and resource allocation
15. Analyze business metrics to verify objectives are progressing as planned, and to direct additional actions to be taken when appropriate
Requirements
* Bachelor’s degree
* 10 years progressive experience managing and directing business development through strategic partnerships with a minimum of 5 years in a senior leadership role
* Demonstrated success in developing new revenue streams via strategic partnerships focused on content monetization
* Proven track record in business development with demonstrated ability to articulate a future vision and business development plan and ensure profitability meets and/or exceeds profit targets
* Experience in crafting complex business partnerships, including distributorships and affiliate partnerships, and demonstrated leadership in driving these business partnerships to signature
* Ability to influence decision makers and close using a proactive consultative approach
* Ability to translate and communicate a plan into tactical goals
* Strong financial acumen, skilled in analyzing and quantifying financial and market data
* Possess personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to company values
* Exceptional executive presence, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills, with strong ability to make decisions and collaborate across the business
* Strong sense of personal initiative and urgency to accomplish tasks
* Must have the legal right to work in the United States
